The importer module is a separate program from Brass Jacks Bookkeeper. You must have at least Brass Jacks Bookkeeper v26 in order to use the importer.

When you want to import Quickbooks data, Brass Jacks Bookkeeper will copy the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper database to a staging area. The importer is then run to import data from the Quickbooks company data (whatever company is currently open in Quickbooks) to the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper database in the staging area.

Once the import is complete, Brass Jacks Bookkeeper will copy the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper database from the staging area back to its default location.

Then you can work as you normally do with Brass Jacks Bookkeeper which will now have the Quickbooks data available.

When running the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper Quickbooks importer, Brass Jacks Bookkeeper copies the database to a staging area in the current user’s My Documents folder:

When the import is complete, Brass Jacks Bookkeeper will copy the database from this staging folder back to the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper application folder (typically C:\Program Files x(86)\MySoftware\Brass Jacks Bookkeeper). If you are using different Windows accounts to switch between running as Administrator and a non-Admin account (Note that you don’t have to do it this way. The Brass Jacks Bookkeeper application is launched “Run As Administrator but the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper Quickbooks importer does not have to be launched this way), then you may receive a message about the database not being found when running the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper Quickbooks importer. If this is the case, run the Brass Jacks Bookkeeper Quickbooks importer with the same account that was used during installation but just do not run “as Administrator”.
