Verifying the Interactive Trial Balance
As you make entries in Brass Jacks Bookkeeper, the program automatically enters transactions in its behind-the-scenes balance sheet. To make sure your books are balanced and accurate, you can view the Interactive Trial Balance dialog box or view a General Ledger report.
You should check your interactive trial balance on a regular basis to make sure that your accounts are up to date and balanced.
To view the interactive trial balance:
- Choose Accounting > View Interactive Trial Balance, or click Trial Balance in the Company section of the task bar.
- To view the trial balance details of a specific account in the Interactive Trial Balance dialog box, select the account in the Trial Balance list.
- Click Detail.
- In the Trial Balance Item Detail dialog box for that account, review the information.
- To print the report, click Print.
- To return to the Interactive Trial Balance dialog box, click OK.
- Click Close.
Note: You can make adjustments to the interactive trial balance by clicking Journal Entry in the Interactive Trial Balance dialog box and making journal entries. If you’re not comfortable with double-entry accounting and journal entries, request that the corrections be done by your accountant or bookkeeping professional.
If your trial balance is out of balance, you might have some tax accounts that haven’t been activated.
To activate a tax account:
- Choose Accounting > Activate Account.
- In the Add Selectable Accounts dialog box, select the account(s) you want to activate from the list.
To select a range of accounts, select the first account you want, press Shift, and then select the last account in the range. To select multiple, individual accounts, press Ctrl as you select each account. - Click OK.
