Using Express Setup

Using the express setup creates a Brass Jacks Bookkeeper company file based on minimal information. You can specify more detailed information later. See the topics in the Managing Company Information section for details.

To specify more details during the setup process or to use advanced payroll features with this company, use the Standard Setup method. For information, see Using Standard Setup.

To add a company with Express Setup:
  1. If you have a company open in Brass Jacks Bookkeeper, choose Company > New Company or File > New Company.
    If you've just started Brass Jacks Bookkeeper, in theBrass Jacks Bookkeeper  Company Selection dialog box, click New.
  2. In the New Company Assistant wizard,select Express Setup.
  3. Click Start.
  4. Step 1: Type the legal Company Name as you want it printed on tax forms.
  5. Step 2: Specify the accounting method: Cash or Accrual.
    Use the same accounting method that you use for reporting your taxes. If you’re not sure which accounting method is correct for you, consult your accountant.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Step 3: Specify the Next Fiscal Year End date.
    You can type the date or click the arrow and select a date. If you use the calendar year as your fiscal year, type 12/31 of this year.
    You can enter transactions for the current fiscal year only. If you have unpaid invoices or other carryovers from the previous year that you want to enter into Brass Jacks Bookkeeper, enter your last year-end date here. After you’re satisfied with your prior-year entries, close that year to work on the current year.
  8. Step 4: Type a name for the company's checking account.
    This account name is for identifying which account you currently use. You can add other accounts later.  
  9. Type the current account balance for the account.  
  10. Type the number of the next check you plan to use.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Step 5:Create a password for this account.
    Brass Jacks Bookkeeper sets up the initial password as Unrestricted. You can create additional passwords with payroll and bank account restrictions. 
  13. In the Re-enter Password box, re-type the password.
  14. In the Security Question box, type any question with a simple answer that you will remember in case you cannot remember your password.
  15. In the Answer box, type the answer to the question.
  16. In the Hint box, type a hint for answering the question.
  17. Click Create Company.
