CSV Bank File Overview

Importing bank transaction files involves three types of processing:

    • Creating a mapping of the fields in the file to the corresponding fields in the database
    • Match transactions on the file with outstanding transactions for the selected bank account
    • For any unmatched transactions, create them for the bank account

Each of these steps is part of the bank file import wizard. The wizard is designed to remember field mapping as well as allow for creating "presets" that can assist with matching transactions and creating missing transactions.

As transactions are matched, they are saved with a "pending" reconciliation status, This will save time when performing the bank reconciliation as these items will already be checked for you.

Note that the import process does not reconcile your bank statement. Its purpose is to easily identify existing transactions and create missing transactions. Bank account reonciliation is a separate process. For more on that, click here.
